Congratulations Cumann Warszawa!!!

On Saturday the May 14th 2016, Cumann Warszawa, Poland’s only Gaelic Football club hosted the second round of the East and Central European Gaelic Football Championship. Annual Central European Gaelic Football Championships highlights our year in the club and this year we were honoured to be one of the hosting teams.

Among excellent competitors from Rome, Padova, Vienna, Berlin and Munich, our ladies team won all their matches throughout the day while the men won all but one having conceded their opening match against Berlin, however they went on to beat them in the finals.

Congratulations Cumann on winning the CHAMPIONSHIPS!

Captains on the day were Brian Hogg (Ireland) and Natasha Lange (Sweden), both 5th year veterinary students who were excellent in motivating and leading the teams to victory. Competition took place on the excellently prepared fields of AWF in Warsaw.

Our gaelic football teams are made up of international veterinary students from Ireland, Northern Ireland, Britain, Sweden and Norway; from 1st to 5th year, some players playing their whole lives and others only since the start of their studies in Warsaw.

Organising this tournament was a huge undertaking for the club and it couldn’t have happened without the help and generosity of many people. We’d sincerely like to thank everyone who came to support us, all the helpers on the day, the Irish Ambassador to Poland Mr. Gerard Keown, all the numerous sponsors who supported our fundraising events throughout the year and of course the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, WULS-SGGW in the person of the Dean, Professor Marian Binek, and the staff of Dean’s Office for International Studies, in particular Ms. Anna Klatka to whom we are forever grateful.

We hope to continue to grow the gaelic football club in SGGW and achieve successes each year!
