Researchers from the Faculty of Animal Sciences of WULS-SGGW demonstrated that graphene can destroy cancer cells. The team of Professor Ewa Sawosz-Chwalibóg from the Department of nanobiotechnology discovered that graphene is adjacent to the tumor cell and forms a thin layer around it, cutting off the supply of oxygen and nutrients, leading to its death. Graphene not only kills cancer cells but can also be an excellent carrier of other substances.
On July 18th, 2014, the Warsaw University of Life Sciences (WULS-SGGW) hosted a delegation from the Republic of Guinea, led by the Minister of Economy and Finance, Mr Mohamed Diare.
The Warsaw University of Life Sciences was awarded with the Certificate of UBERRIMA FIDE (Latin for "with great care"). The Augustin-Jean Fresnel Foundation and Plagiat.pl granted awards to universities and faculties that have implemented anti-plagiarism procedures and in an exemplary way prevent illegal copying of dissertations. Thirteen universities were awarded with the Certificate.
On June 2 the stages of Warsaw Kamienica Theatre held 2014 ENACTUS finals. The event was attended by over 250 students and 80 judges - presidents and directors - experienced managers ready to hear about students’ achievements, share their knowledge and evaluate students’ work. A celebration of granting honoris causa doctorates will take place on May 23 at 11 a.m. in the Crystal Hall at the Warsaw University of Life Sciences. Two outstanding scientists will be distinguished with the honorary degrees: Professor Michele Jamiolkowski and Professor Wojciech Wolski. Professor Michele Jamiołkowski is an outstanding scholar in the field of soil mechanics and geotechnics and Professor Wojciech Wolski is a distinguished scholar in the field of geotechnicsl and hydrotechnics.
Przed pomnikiem ks. Stanisława Staszica, w kampusie uczelni, odbyła się zorganizowana przez Stowarzyszenie Wychowanków Szkoły Głównej Gospodarstwa Wiejskiego uroczystość upamiętniająca postać wielkiego Polaka, patrioty, naukowca i filantropa. Uroczystości poświęcone Stanisławowi Staszicowi (1755-1826) odbywają się w SGGW od kilku lat i uczestniczą w nich uczniowie szkół, których ksiądz Staszic jest patronem. W tym roku w uroczystości wzięli udział nauczyciele i uczniowie Zespołu Szkół Rolniczych im. St. Staszica w Miętnem oraz z Gimnazjum nr 91 im. Stanisława Staszica w Warszawie. Pod pomnikiem St. Staszica złożono wieńce.
The ELLS Scientific Students Conferences (SSC) give students the opportunity to present their research projects or thesis to a broad international audience. The themes of the conferences are different every year, but can be seen from any discipline in the life sciences. Next to the possibility for students to learn from each other, scientific experts are present to give critique to the students’ presentations and to give insight in their field of expertise. The conference is a way to formally and informally engage with fellow students and experts.
The Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, at the Warsaw University of Life Sciences invites to come to a meeting with Dr. Maciej Klockiewicz, an employee of the Division of Parasitology and Invasiology, who as a volunteer of Polish Aid Program, co-financed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs RP participated in the project: "The substantive support teaching in the field of Parasitology - continuation".
For the first time a year scholarship funded by the Bayer Foundation was granted to a Polish student. Milena Tryfon from the Faculty of Horticulture, Biotechnology and Landscape Architecture of Warsaw University of Life Sciences in Warsaw will receive a year scholarship amounting to 9 100 Euro, which will enable her to conduct M.A. studies abroad.
